Final Cut Pro adds built-in MotionVFX in November subscription update
3-line summary
- Built-in MotionVFX for Mac is scheduled for November.
- One-time purchasers will keep receiving app updates.
- Separate MotionVFX subscriptions have different continuation terms.
Apple announced on October 27 that MotionVFX will be built into Final Cut Pro for Mac through a Creator Studio update in November. Existing subscribers receive the update free. The change adds MotionVFX’s collection, including tracking and rotoscoping tools, to Apple’s creative-app subscription.
People who bought Final Cut Pro outright will continue receiving app updates. Apple’s product FAQ maintains the one-time purchase while reserving access to some premium content for Creator Studio subscribers.
MotionVFX’s existing mRotoAI tool explains the kind of work involved. A mask defines the part of a picture receiving an effect. According to the supplier, users select a subject and start tracking; AI then adapts the mask as that subject moves and changes shape across frames. The resulting area can be used for colour grading, stylized effects or background replacement. The supplier describes this as removing frame-by-frame mask keyframing. Supplier presets can then style the completed mask.
In the United States, Final Cut Pro for Mac costs $299.99 as a one-time purchase. Creator Studio costs $12.99 monthly or $129 annually, bundling video, music and image applications. College student and educator subscriptions cost $2.99 monthly or $29.99 annually. A 30-day free trial is available to new subscribers before paid billing begins. The standalone app is for Mac; subscriptions include Mac and iPad versions.
MotionVFX has separately outlined continuation terms for its own subscriptions. Monthly plans remain available to purchase and renew until further notice. Existing annual subscriptions last until their current billing period ends; customers can then choose Creator Studio or a MotionVFX monthly plan. Its separate plan trials run for 14 days without watermarks or render limits, with downloads limited to 500 library elements.
Apple’s bundle excludes two MotionVFX tools, mCaptionsAI and mUpscalerAI. Customers using a separate MotionVFX plan retain that plan’s tools in their existing workflow, according to the supplier’s FAQ.
Apple’s subscription support document requires a personal Apple Account, excluding Managed Apple Accounts. Someone who owns a standalone app can also subscribe and install both versions on the same Mac.
Cancellation preserves access to included apps and features until the paid period ends. Projects and files remain available afterward. Apple says customers can resume working on their projects by resubscribing or buying a standalone app.
Creator Studio’s product page separately explains content licensing. Projects and content made during an active subscription remain licensed within the original creation, including generated images and Content Hub images. Projects stay on devices and can be copied or shared.
The Creator Studio terms say supplied library content belongs to Apple or its respective owner. Subject to additional or other applicable terms, images, audio, video and other assets can be used royalty-free in original personal or commercial projects. The terms prohibit redistributing the assets as standalone files outside the apps or service, or incorporating them into a logo or trademark.
A standard Creator Studio subscription can be shared with five other family members. Student and educator subscriptions are for individual use and exclude Family Sharing.
The November version of Final Cut Pro for Mac requires macOS 26.6 or later. It supports Intel and Apple silicon Macs, with some features requiring Apple silicon. Apple has yet to announce an exact release date.
