Perplexity is rolling out Teammates, AI agents that retain responsibility for ongoing work, in a web research preview for individual Max subscribers. Its launch blog is dated November 4. The agents monitor connected tools, act when something changes and return completed work for review, extending delegation beyond a single request.

Computer already supports scheduling, monitoring and cross-session memory. Teammates add a continuing role and dedicated sidebar thread, with work history and controls for redirection. Existing projects, skills and memory carry over.

Perplexity illustrates collaboration with a teammate that investigates website bugs and passes its findings to another to prepare fixes. Colleagues can also assign work or request updates in a Slack channel.

For larger projects, teammates run tasks in parallel and check the collected results. New teammates and their additional agents default to Claude Opus 5.5; users can choose models per task.

The initial preview covers individual Max accounts. The help center excludes Pro and Enterprise Pro or Max from automatic launch access, directing enterprise users to their administrator. A shared teammate conversation is read-only for others. Teammates within one Project can exchange messages and share files, context and instructions.

Separate environments, metered work

Each teammate has its own desktop and browser, including separate browsing sessions and local cookies. The product page links to Perplexity's July 15 SPACE architecture explanation: Computer workloads run in virtual machines with separate guest kernels, while network access and credential delivery are controlled outside the execution environment.

That existing runtime preserves disk and virtual-machine snapshots for long-running work. A suspended environment can resume from saved state, and checkpoints support recovery after a failure. SPACE supplies the underlying Computer infrastructure. Users can take over a teammate's desktop or change its direction while the work is in progress.

Individual Max retains its existing price of $200 monthly or $2,000 annually. The pricing page's $167 monthly figure assumes annual billing. Max's plan documentation treats programmatic API access as separately billed. The subscription price is distinct from the credits consumed as delegated tasks run. Annual billing is available through the web.

Max includes 10,000 credits each month. Its advertised 35,000-credit bonus is a one-time new-subscriber grant that expires after about 30 days. The credit guide currently equates 100 credits to $1. It illustrates a multi-step research report at 350–950 credits, with actual consumption depending on complexity.

Monthly credits refresh on the billing date and unused amounts expire. When credits run out, Computer saves and pauses active tasks, then resumes them automatically when credits become available. Auto-refill starts disabled; Max's refill trigger is 2,500 remaining credits, with a monthly spending cap available. Max's monthly credit-spending cap defaults to $200 and can be set as high as $5,000.

The product page includes promotional Teammates usage with Max, followed by use of the plan's existing credits after that grant. It gives no promotional end date. Web access is available now, with desktop and mobile listed as coming later. The help center says behavior may change during the research preview.
