An AI that, given a goal, plans and uses tools to complete multi-step work on its own.
Where a chat assistant gives one answer per question, an AI agent works through several steps on its own — searching, reading files, running code — until it reaches the goal.
Because it can do a lot, it matters which tools you allow and where a person must sign off.
For example
Told to "compare three competitors' pricing in a table," it searches the web and builds the table itself.
