Notion’s new AI credit system is scheduled to reach existing Business and Enterprise workspaces on November 2. The transition separates monthly usage for tasks where Notion chooses a model from work where a member selects one. Notion announced the system on October 19 and applied it to new workspaces first.

The stated monthly defaults are 1,500 Standard credits and 500 Select credits per member. Standard covers work on Auto, Notion’s model router; Select covers manually chosen models and personally funded Custom Agents. The help centre qualifies these allowances: the amount included can vary with a customer’s plan and purchase arrangement.

The two balances reset with the monthly billing cycle, with no rollover. Members cannot transfer them to colleagues or exchange one type for the other. Exhausting Select pauses features charged to Select while any remaining Standard allowance stays available for work on Auto.

Continuing beyond an included allowance requires an administrator to permit spending from the workspace’s separate Notion credits balance. That continuation setting is off by default. Without permission, the affected work waits for its monthly reset. The centrally purchased balance therefore has a different funding and approval path from the allowances attached to individual seats.

Additional Notion credits are listed at $10 per 1,000 for monthly credits or $13 per 1,000 for annual credits. Monthly balances reset monthly; annual credits last until subscription renewal. In-product purchasing follows the core subscription’s billing interval, while account-managed customers have additional options.

Sharing an agent does not change its default payer

New Custom Agents use their owner’s Select credits, including when colleagues run them. Owners can set per-agent spending caps.

An administrator can switch an agent to a workspace-funded Notion credit budget. Otherwise it uses Select first, then any additional owner allowance, then permitted shared workspace credits.

Agents created before November 2 retain their existing shared-workspace funding. Creation date and an administrator’s funding choice can therefore change who pays.

The feature timetable has a later step for meeting transcription. AI Meeting Notes begins consuming monthly Standard credits on December 1, with a one-hour meeting estimated at about 10 credits. AI editing, translation, blocks and database formulas fall under Standard. Workers use no credits during beta, and ordinary Database Autofill currently leaves balances unchanged.

Everyday reads and writes through Notion MCP or the API do not consume credits, although normal rate limits apply. Running an agent through the API or a connected app uses Notion credits. High-consumption models, including Fable and Astra, also use that workspace-managed balance.

Administrators can see member-level overspending and high-consumption model usage in dashboard rows. Agent runs, credits consumed, actual usage and an estimate through the billing period are also visible. That estimate projects current patterns; it is not a confirmed future bill.

Workspace owners receive in-app and email alerts at 80% and 100% of their Notion credit usage. Administrators can control member and agent limits and access to expensive models. A cap can still be exceeded by a task already running: Notion allows that task to finish before stopping new usage.
