3-line summary
- Higher-allowance Pro 200 subscribers keep their capacity; lower allowances double.
- Pro 100 and 500 receive twice their previous Work and Codex allowance.
- Pro 200 stays at $200 per month; existing subscribers receive the update automatically.
OpenAI has canceled the planned Work and Codex allowance cut for ChatGPT Pro 200. Its October 29 release notes also double allowances on Pro 100 and Pro 500.
Pro 200 subscribers with higher allowances keep them; lower allowances double to match. The decision reverses the reduction announced by email on September 29.
Three individual Pro plans cost $100, $200 and $500 monthly. Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100, with Pro 500 offering the highest allowance. New Pro 200 subscriptions are available again at the unchanged $200 monthly price. Existing subscribers receive the updated allowance automatically, including before their next renewal.
Weekly GPT-6 Pro message limits in ordinary Chat are managed separately. Pro 100 and Pro 500 keep their current Chat limits. Pro 200 customers with the lower weekly limit are brought up to the higher level, while those already receiving it retain it. Plus usage remains unchanged.
One allowance across coding and document work
Work handles longer research, analysis and deliverables such as documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Codex focuses on writing, debugging, testing and reviewing software. The two experiences share subscription usage. Eligible Excel and Workspace Agents activity shares that allowance and credit pool.
That budget has no fixed conversion into messages or completed tasks. Input and output size, reasoning settings, tools and the number of steps affect consumption. GPT-6.1 Sol has a default 500,000-token context window, with no separate long-context surcharge for subscription-included usage. Longer tasks still count against the allowance. OpenAI says a larger allowance cannot guarantee twice as many finished tasks.
Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 currently have no five-hour usage limit in Work and Codex, although included allowances and weekly controls still apply. Remaining usage and reset times appear in the account’s usage settings. Plans with both five-hour and weekly windows, such as Plus and Business Standard, need capacity remaining in both.
Speed settings also affect how quickly the budget is spent. Fast consumes included usage at 2.5 times the Standard rate for the same model. Among individual Pro plans, Ultrafast is available on Pro 500. For GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol, it consumes included usage at eight times Standard, then purchased credits at six times the Standard credit rate.
Cloud coding tasks remain within the existing billing structure. They run on OpenAI-managed computers and can continue while the user’s computer sleeps. At launch, standard Codex Cloud environments have no separate virtual-machine charge; model use counts toward normal allowances and applicable billing. Auto-review safety checks are free when Codex uses a ChatGPT account. Other activity continues to consume the applicable allowance or credits.
ChatGPT uploads, image generation and regular Chat Voice have separate limits; tasks started through desktop Voice use the shared Work and Codex pool.
Eligible accounts can buy credits to continue after included usage is exhausted. These are an additional payment option for supported features, including Codex, Work, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Included usage is spent first, followed by the credit balance. Purchase availability depends on the account and plan.
Where available, automatic reload buys enough credits to restore a chosen target when the balance falls below a selected minimum. Enabling it with a balance already below that minimum can trigger an immediate purchase. Usage credits are tracked separately from the ChatGPT wallet’s dollar balance.
