Claude’s newest features, billed by Google: a new deployment option
3-line summary
- Claude Models on Google Cloud now has a generally available Anthropic-managed option.
- It combines Google Cloud authentication and billing with day-zero Claude Platform features.
- The Google-managed option remains, with a different data processor and feature rollout path.
On October 22, Anthropic announced general availability of Claude Models on Google Cloud (Anthropic managed). Customers reach the Claude API through a Google Cloud project, while Anthropic operates the service and acts as data processor.
The option promises Claude Platform features and betas on the same day as the native platform. Examples include Managed Agents in beta, Skills for repeatable workflows and code execution. It uses Google Cloud IAM and billing, with usage counting toward eligible cloud commitments.
The existing Google-managed option remains, with Google as data processor. Google says both options receive new models on day zero, but Google-managed Platform features arrive after integration. The distinction is about platform features and operating responsibility, rather than faster access to new models.
The official comparison also distinguishes API hosts, request formats and access grants. Anthropic advises customers with existing discounts to confirm applicability before use; discounts cannot be applied retroactively. This report reviews announcements and documentation, rather than testing live account features or invoices.
Why it matters
AI Ping sees a need to compare operating conditions even when services share a cloud bill. Checking feature timing alongside data-processing responsibility can make a team’s adoption criteria clearer.
