Microsoft and the US Public Library Association (PLA) announced an AI-learning partnership on October 22. Microsoft support and PLA’s library network will underpin free resources and training for library workers and patrons.
The training covers privacy, evaluating AI-generated claims and sources, and recognizing bias. PLA says individual libraries and their communities retain the choice of whether and how to use AI.
The first free webinar is scheduled for December 3, 2026, at 1 p.m. Central Standard Time (CST). A staff introduction to generative AI is planned for January 20, 2027, followed by a train-the-trainer workshop on February 17. The schedule currently links registration for the first webinar; workshop registration links are still to be announced.
The patron page also lists generative-AI foundations and workplace courses that are free with a LinkedIn account. Additional patron materials on fundamentals, safety, work and careers are planned over the coming months. Course account requirements and the availability of classes at individual libraries need to be checked separately.
Why it matters
AI Ping sees value in making judgment about AI answers part of community learning alongside tool use. Training organizers should distinguish available resources from sessions and materials still being prepared.
Who it's for
- Beginners
- When choosing an introductory course, check account requirements and whether it teaches answer and source verification.
- Office workers
- For staff training, consult PLA’s schedule and facilitator-resource guidance, then define review exercises suited to your organization.
