holdout evaluation

A final check using cases kept out of the revision process.

Reserve fresh cases to distinguish solving rehearsed examples from handling new ones.

Once a held-out case guides another revision, it becomes development material. Do not keep calling it an independent final test.

For example

Revise on notes with an unknown fee, then check fresh notes with an unknown start time.
